MASHOKO CHRISTIAN HOSPITAL (Mashoko means, "the word")

• Founded in 1958 by Dr. Dennis Pruett.
• Many doctors have worked there, among them: Dr. David Grubbs, Dr. James Freasure, Dr. Gloria Cobb, Dr. Jerry Smith, Dr. Dwain Illman, Dr. Michael Keralis, Dr. Fred Abel, and now Dr. Bungu.
• Dr. Dennis Pruett and Dr. David Grubbs founded FAME located in Indianpolis, Indiana.
• Base from which Chidamoyo Christian Hospital, Makonde Christian Hospital, Maranda Mission Clinic, and Damarakanaka Mission Clinic were started.
• 60,000 patients seen per year.
• Average of 60 patients and staff baptized per year.
• Average of 200 babies delivered per month.
• Average of 2,000 surgical operations performed per year.
• Leadership workshops sponsored yearly to develop the 36 congregations within an 80 mile radius of Mashoko.
• Most of the founding members and active members of the surrounding churches first heard the Gospel at Mashoko Christian Hospital.
• Mashoko Christian Hospital has trained more than a thousand nurses.
• Mashoko Christian Hospital has sponsored the training of two doctors at the local medical school.
• Thousands survived drought through Mashoko Christian Hospital.
• Thousands have got their new set of clothes at Mashoko Christian Hospital.

CHIDAMOYO CHRISTIAN HOSPITAL

Kathy McCarty, head missionary nurse for Chidamoyo Christian Hospital, needs funds for an addition to their building. So far they have collected $2,000. but still need about $10,000 more. The addition will greatly help relieve a very crowded situation as it pertains to examination of inpatents and also allow a better environment to witness to everyone who comes to the hospital. Kathy hopes to have the funds raised by September 2010.

This is what we are facing with Dr.Bungu's medical ministry at Mashoko Christian Hospital in Zimbabwe.

"Two hundred to three hundred people come to Mashoko's Out Patient Department (OPD) everyday to have their illnesses and pain relieved. We preach to them before attending to their physical needs. We hardly have to go out in the villages to look for people to preach to. Instead , they come to us. This is unique to a medical ministry. Also, people who are ill and in pain are people who have failed to solve their problems and are ready to accept that there is someone more powerful than they or their ancestors . Most of these people would have visited the n'angas (witch doctors) without relief. Phase II of Mashoko's Nursing School is now completed. Mashoko's School of Nursing is coed. An additional dormitory has been added to house the students separately. This was done in order to comply with Zimbabwe regulation. The benefits will be immediate because the students will become another pair of hands for the hospitals and clincs.

"This is exactly what we are facing at Mashoko Christian Hospital . It is a national problem even though we may have are own inside problems. Nurses are being attracted to greener pastures :England, Private Doctors' offices, Government Hospitals, and private hospitals. We have never lost nurses to other mission hospitals. We need more nurses at Mashoko Christian Hospital in order to win more people to Christ. This is what we are also looking for. We will be graduating two to three groups of students . Some will be bonded for three years and will not be given clearance letters to go to the green pastures until they serve for three years. This will give us stability in staffing. We will give better service than the witch doctors. We will be able to show God's compassion , mercy, and power." ....Dr. Bungu
